Albert Erwin Kent

Albert Erwin Kent, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 19, 2023 with his family by his side. 

He was born in Surrency, GA to the late Dock and Mattie Mann Kent. He married Harolyn Rentz in 1962 and together they had a beautiful daughter, Robin Denise Kent. 

Albert and his family moved to Sebring, FL in the early 1970s. There he established Kent Tile Co. and served the community for decades. Albert and Harolyn returned home to Surrency in the late 1990s where he lived out the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Surrency. 

Albert enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cutting a fool and laughing all the while. If you knew Albert, you knew his contagious laugh and smile. You could find him riding around with his dogs just about any day of the week, and if he wasn’t there, he was under his barn talking to anyone that stopped by to say hello. 

He loved his family more than anything. He was always happiest at the annual family reunion when his siblings, cousins, daughter, grandkids, and great grandkids came to town for a full weekend of events.

Albert will be sorely missed, but will always be remembered for his big heart, contagious smile, and giving spirit. 

He is preceded in death by his sisters Hazel Griffis, Wanda Powell, and Hilda McCall.  He is survived by his wife Harolyn Kent, daughter Robin (Bobby) Helms; grandchildren Ashley (Jarred) Eddy, Kyle (Olivia) Helms; great grandchildren Kinslee and Carter Eddy. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Cody, Wilda (Alan) Holman, Judy Knight, Imadean Sapp, Erma Jean Mitchell, and brothers J.L. (Mattie) Kent, Bernie (Dereta) Kent, and Dale Kent. 

Albert will be laid to rest with his family by his side on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Carter and Rev. Alan Stalvey officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kyle Helms, Chad Kent, Colby Kent, Brian Kent, Clint Bass and Donnie Hardee.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
