Charles Stone Obituary

Charles Edward Stone, age 86, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at his residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.

Mr. Stone was born July 17, 1935 in Jeff Davis County to the late Charles Woodrow Stone and the late Lucille Powell Stone.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and attended the Fisherman’s Sunday School Class. Mr. Stone was retired from the timber industry and was the former owner of Stone Timber Company. He was a charter member of the Appling Co. Exchange Club, a Mason and member of the Holmesville Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Appling Co. Touchdown Club. Mr. Stone was an avid hunter and fisherman and a man who always kept his family, especially his grandchildren, a priority.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Velma Bullard Stone of Baxley; daughter & son-in-law, Julie & Tommy York of Cairo; son & daughter-in-law, Kelly & Joellen Stone of Baxley; two sisters & brothers-in-law, Velma & J. L. Hinnant of Waycross and Geraldine & Joe Woodard of Mumford, AL; and four grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth York, Kindall Michelle York, Meredith Lucille Stone and Robert Charles “Rhett” Stone. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Anderson, Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. Mike Redwine, and Rev. Joe Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Mobley, Keith Mobley, Gary Mobley, Jeffery Studebaker, Chuck Woodard, Jim Woodard, Micheal Shumans and Randy Livingston.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Fisherman’s Sunday School Class and all friends and family in attendance.

Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2022, 12-2 p.m., at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Bereavement Fund of First Baptist Church P.O. Box 346 Baxley, Georgia 31515, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
