Donnie R. Sikes, Sr.

Donnie R. Sikes, Sr., age 89, of Baxley passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Mr. Sikes was born December 29, 1933 in Baxley to Oscar and Tempie Sikes.  He was a carpenter, a Volunteer Firefighter for over 38 years with the Baxley Fire Department, and a member of the Holmesville Masonic Lodge 195.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Fisherman’s Sunday School Class, and the Joy Group.  Mr. Sikes was an avid supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and The Shriners Children’s Hospital.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth K. Sikes and a granddaughter, Amy Reese.

Survivors include his sons, Donnie Sikes, Jr. of Baxley and David (Laury) Sikes of Lawrenceville; daughters, Cecelia (Kerry) Reese of Baxley and Tempie (Jimmy) Anderson of Jesup.  Eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; aunt, Helen Shumans of Bloomingdale and uncle, Henry Smith of Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Friday, May 26, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. Robert Wigley, and Rev. Fred Anderson officiating and eulogies by David Sikes and Donnie Sikes, Jr. Interment will follow in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dallas Sikes, Ty Anderson, James Anderson, Les Grimm, Jesse Scott, Dawysn Sikes and Carson Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Fisherman’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, past & present members of the Baxley Fire Department, Mike Serrano, Larry Knight, Ricky Clark, Ray Carter, Freda Gruber and Jeff Baxley.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2023 evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
