Doris Edward Spell, Jr.

Doris Edward Spell Jr., age 68, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.

Edward was born March 1, 1955 in Appling County to the late Dorris Edward Spell Sr., and the late Myrtle Lee Spaulding Spell. He was a member of Harvest Temple Church of God and was veteran of The United States Army, having served in the Vietnam Era. He was a retired Correctional Counselor at the Federal Bureau of Prisons - FCI of Jesup. Edward was a true patriot, he loved his family community and Appling County and wanted to make it an even better place to call home. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Spell.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Stone Spell of Baxley; daughter, Christal Fennell of Baxley; sisters, Dianna Spell of Baxley, and Terrie (Robert) Schirg of Crestview, FL; brothers, David (Kim) Spell of Rayland, Ohio, Richard Spell, Greg Spell and Leonard Spell all of Baxley. One grandchild, Gabriel Fennell of Baxley, also survives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Greg Spell, David Spell, Leonard Spell, Gregory Spell, Daniel Davenport, and Charles Stone.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Federal Bureau of Prisons - FCI of Jesup.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
