James Edward Evans

James Edward Evans, age 57, of Baxley passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Appling Healthcare after a sudden illness.

Mr. Evans was born on January 7, 1965 in Jeff Davis County to the late Harvey Edward Evans and the late Zellair Pearl Lairsey Evans. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.  Mr. Evans was employed by Appling Healthcare as a Paramedic for nearly twenty years. He also worked for AirEvac for ten years. He was greatly respected by his colleagues and community for his years of service to Appling and surrounding counties.

Survivors include his wife, Rena Evans of Baxley; daughter, Brandi (Richie) Davis of Surrency; sons, Kyle (Marlesa) Evans and Kevin (Michelle) Vaughn both of Baxley; sisters, Martha Ray of Snipesville, Margaret Hernadez of Hazlehurst and Annette Greene of Baxley; brothers, Ted Hartley and Donald Ray Partin both of Hazlehurst; ten grandchildren; and a special fur baby, Lulu.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Friendship Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Bobby Lairsey and Rev. Fred Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Richie Davis, Dusty Bruce, Jim Lawrence, Robert Pearce, Ja Walker and David Gay.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Appling EMS, EMA, AirEvac, employees of Appling Healthcare, Appling Sheriff’s Office, Baxley Police Department, Baxley Fire Department, and Hazlehurst Fire Department.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
