Jesse Gene Newell, Sr.

Jesse Gene Newell, Sr., age 80, of Hazlehurst, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Newell was born September 19, 1943 in Jeff Davis County to the late Joe W. Newell and the late Ruby Burkett Newell.  He was a heavy equipment operator & mechanic with Tidewater and a member of Graham Church of God. Mr. Newell was a veteran of the United States Army and received the expert rifle badge. He was also a member of the American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Morris, grandson, Austin Morris, and brothers, Gailand Newell and Joe Newell, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Joyce Newell of Hazlehurst; daughters, Judy (Bloyce Coy, Jr.) McDaniel of Hazlehurst and Carolyn Wills of Dublin; sons, David (Eve) Morris and Jesse (Sherry) Newell, Jr. all of Hazlehurst; granddaughter, Cindy (James) White, and forty-one grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Hazlehurst City Cemetery with Rev. Don Dixon and Henry Newell officiating.
