John Durham Black, Jr.

John Durham Black, Jr., age 90, of Gainesville, Florida passed away February 25, 2022 in Lake City, Florida.

Mr. Black was born July 7, 1931 in Asheville, North Carolina to the late John Durham Black, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Caroline Hamilton Black. He was a retired school teacher and relief principal with the Clay County Board of Education and was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Gardner Black; two infant sons, Barton Black and Michael Black; and his brother, Henry Black.

Survivors include his two daughters, Rose Black and Helen Black, both of Gainesville, Florida; and his son, John Black of Lake City, Florida.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Benji McReady officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
