Larry Atkinson Obituary

Larry L. Atkinson, age 70, of Baxley, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021 at Appling Healthcare.

Mr. Atkinson was born March 17, 1951 in Jeff Davis County to the late Lewis Atkinson and the late Francis Dyal Atkinson Driggers. He was the owner and operator of AAA Erectors Inc. Mr. Atkinson was a member of Liberty Community Church in Hazlehurst where he was involved in the praise and worship group and choir, served on the finance committee, was a deacon, and was a Sunday School Teacher. He was a loving husband, father, and poppy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Atkinson; and two sisters, Mary Francis Atkinson and Myrtle Lee Barnes.

Survivors include his wife, Beth Atkinson of Baxley; daughter & son-in-law, Tara & Waylon Slaughter of Baxley; sons, Kevin Atkinson and Kelly Atkinson, both of Baxley; sister & brother-in-law, Barbara Ann & James Stankowitz of Hazlehurst; brothers and sister-in-law, Terry & Kathy Atkinson of Hazlehurst and Jerry Atkinson of Baxley; father-in-law, James Edward Carter of Baxley; brothers-in-law, Ricky (Amy) Carter of Baxley and Donnie (Angie) Carter of Baxley; eight grandchildren, Errin (Shane) Williams, Jonathon (Kailey) Carter, Christina (Mitchell) Butler, Ally Atkinson, Dakota Atkinson, Joshua (Karleigh) Atkinson, Bethany Atkinson, and Mitchell Atkinson; and four great grandchildren, Jace Williams, Rylan Williams, Eddilyn Williams, and Adia Butler.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Virginia Herrington and Rev. Jimmy Selph officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joshua Atkinson, Dakota Atkinson, Ian Carter, Austin “P-nut” Carter, Jonathon Carter, and Shane Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of AAA Erectors Inc., Charlie Leggett and employees of Leggett Steel Buildings, Kenny Upchurch and employees of Bax-Steel Buildings, Woody Folsom, Danny Johnson and employees of Dixie Builders, Mitchell Stidham and employees of Steel Structures, and Danny and Phil Emrich and employees of SBS Buildings.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Due to Covid-19, all attendees are asked to please follow the rules of social distancing and face masks are recommended at the service. Also, anyone that does not feel comfortable with attending the service, the family would like you to know they understand and covet your prayers.
