Leonard Flanagan Obituary

Leonard Waldon Flanagan, age 89, of Baxley passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. 

 

Mr. Flanagan was born August 5, 1931 in Jesup to the late George W. Flanagan, Sr. and the late Belle Long Walker. Mr. Flanagan was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and was a flight engineer, an advisor to the PA Air Guard and a private pilot instructor. He attended Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church and was a Mason and a 50 year member of Acacia Lodge #452 in Savannah. After retirement, he owned the Amoco Station on Habersham Street in Savannah. After moving to Baxley, Mr. Flanagan established Dunn’s Lake Mobile Home Park.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years and mother of his children, Carolyn Dunn Flanagan, and two brothers, George Flanagan, Jr. and James Branch.

 

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Jane Collins Flanagan of Baxley; children, Michael & Patty Flanagan of Tampa, Florida, Carol & Gary Shiffert of Jacksonville, Florida and Timothy & Shellia Flanagan of Savannah; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Sean & Angie Heath of Hinesville; grandchildren, James, Carolyn, Shawn, Rachel, Alexis, Maghan, Marleigh, Brock, and Bryson; eight great grandchildren and a number of other family members also survive.

 

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, January 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Omega Cemetery with Rev. Fred Anderson and Rev. David Barber officiating.

 

Active Pallbearers will be Shawn Flanagan, James Flanagan, Brock Heath, Bryson Heath, John Oxendine, and Charles Carter.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Georgia 1625 Sunset Blvd. Jesup, GA 31545.

 

Everyone in attendance is asked to please abide by COVID-19 precautions by wearing a mask and social distancing.
