Mary D. Barfield

Mary D. Barfield, age 79, of Baxley passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Mrs. Barfield was born November 23, 1943 in Alma, Georgia to the late Martin Deen Davis and the late Myrtice Hall Davis.  She attended Christ Community Church and was a member of the Heritage Center. She was a draft designer, designing many homes and businesses in Appling County and surrounding counties. She was also employed by Bax Steel Buildings and Miles Construction for many years. Mrs. Barfield was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Heather (Cheree) Lamb; brothers, Marty Davis and Maryland Davis; grandparents, Laura Hall & Patrick Franklin Hall; grandparents, W. H. & Lucretia H. Davis; and special people, Wyman & Mary Lamb.  

Survivors include her husband, John F. Barfield of Baxley; daughters, Tami (Kip) Wainwright, Karen (Jimmy) Davis, and Shona (Ike) Pate all of Baxley; stepdaughter, Misty (Marc) Engelmann of Texas; stepson, Johnny (Becky) Barfield of Texas; sister, Melba D.  Herrington of Baxley; brother, Mickey Davis of Baxley; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00AM at Christ Community Church with Rev. Brad Park and Rev. Doug Weisel officiating. Mrs. Barfield will lie in state one hour prior to the service at Christ Community Church.

Interment will follow in Appling Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Ashley B Wainwright, Trevor Pate, Trenton Pate, Trey Pate, Tristan Pate, Michael Davis, Ryan Engelman, Evan Engelman, and Johnah Engelman.

Honorary pallbearers will be the class of 1961 and all in attendance.

The visitation will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
