Mary Eleanor (Courson) Leggett

Mary Eleanor Leggett, age 91, of Baxley, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Appling Healthcare.

Mrs. Leggett was born April 3, 1932 in Appling County to the late Elijah Courson and the late Stella Lynn Courson.  She was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and was a homemaker and hairdresser. She loved God, flowers, and gardening; she had the unique ability to make sure they were all planted in the way of the mower.

Mrs. Leggett was also preceded in death by her husband, William Lamar “Bill” Leggett; daughter, Mary Janet Leggett Stewart; grandson, Austin Lee Baucom, sisters, Anne Laurie Wilson, Ruby Goolsby, Uldine Beasley, Thelma Christy; and a brother, Howard Courson.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Lanier of Blairsville and Barbara (Ricky) Stewart of Anniston, AL; son, Billy Leggett (Charlie Veasley) of Brunswick; grandchildren, Eva (Shannon) Hutcherson, Nancy Banning, Natalie (Eric) Tenoso, Wes (Ashley) Baucom; and great grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Hutcherson, Elin Tenoso, Ben Baucom and Hudson Baucom also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Boby Gale officiating and a eulogy by Eva Hutcherson. Interment will follow in Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Shannon Hutcherson, Eric Tenoso, Wes Baucom, Ricky Stewart, Wendell Beckworth, Carroll Reynolds, and Andy Stewart.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
