Mary Magalene Rowell Carter

Mary Magalene Rowell Carter, age 87, of Baxley died Sunday, January 24, 2021 in Lyons.

Mrs. Carter was born June 27, 1933 in Appling County to the late Jessie Floyd Dyal and the late Sarah Elizabeth Hughes Dyal.  She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress at Douglas and Harper. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett “Mann” Carter, Jr., a son, Vernon Lamar Rowell, sisters, Iva Lee Griffin, Francis Driggers and brothers, Willie Dyal, Willis Dyal, Harvey Dyal, Carlos “Bud” Dyal and Jessie Dyal.

Survivors include her sons & daughters in law, Darrell & Marsha Rowell of Mt. Vernon and Bobby & Sandra Rowell of Harker Heights, TX; step-daughters, Diane Vickers of Westmoreland, TN and Brenda Turner of Baxley; step-sons, James Noonie Carter and Emmett Rodney (Debbie) Carter all of Baxley. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive.

A private family funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home. (The service will be livestream on the facebook page of Swain Funeral Home).

A public graveside will follow in Carter Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Shane Griffin, Kody Bargeron, Noah Bargeron, Logan Bargeron, Scott Bargeron, Bradley Rowell and Joshua Rowell.

Everyone in attendance is asked to please abide by COVID-19 precautions by wearing a mask and social distancing.
