Matilda "Tillie" Harrelson Deen

Matilda “Tillie” Harrelson Deen, age 81, of Baxley died Friday, November 12, 2021 at her residence under the care of Community Hospice. 

Mrs. Deen was born February 24, 1940 in Baxley to the late Thomas Jefferson Harrelson and the late Frankie Gardner Harrelson. She was a retired seamstress, working at Douglas & Harper, and a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Thomas Deen and a brother, Donald Harrelson.

Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Sherrie & Royce Dykes; sons & daughter-in-law, Junior & Donna Johnson and Eddie Deen; grandchildren, Derrick (Alice) Johnson, Edye Deen (Jarrad Kent), Steven (Cristy) Johnson, Eric Dykes, Amy (Tyler) Walker, & Emily Dykes; sisters, Ingoll Faye (Herman) Sumner and June (Ronald) Bullard; brothers, Wendell (Laura) Harrelson, Weldon Harrelson, and Paul Harrelson; and sister-in-law, Rhonda Harrelson. Six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 15, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Gale, Rev. Doug Weisel, and Rev. Keith Yawn officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be James Sumner, Scott Sumner, Don Harrelson, Randy Harrelson, Andy Harrelson, and Henry Morris.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carolyn Morris, Eleanor Strickland, Nellie Faye Griffin, Rhoda Jane Roberson, Laverne Courson, Lillian Aycock, Nell Bullard, Lamar Jones, Members of Hopewell UMC, and all friends in attendance.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Remembrances may be made to the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home - Baxley Campus (9420 Blackshear Hwy. Baxley, GA 31513).
