Roger Cain Obituary

Roger Glenn Cain, age 74, of Baxley passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 at Appling Healthcare.

Mr. Cain was born July 24, 1947 in Jeff Davis County to the late Woodrow Cain and the late Wilma Wooten Cain. He was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Appling County High School and was both the class President and Valedictorian. After high school, he enrolled in the University of Georgia. While at UGA, he enlisted in the United States Army Corps of Engineers where he honorably served for over 20 years. He had assignments at many military bases, both in the United States and overseas. During a tour of duty in South Korea, he met his loving wife, Song Ja. While in the Army, Mr. Cain completed his degree at the University of Georgia and later retired from the Army in 1992 at the rank of Major.

After retirement, Mr. Cain returned to his home in Appling County where he continued to serve both the local community and the county at large. His service to the county actually began when he was a teenager. He shared his musical talents with the community at various events and activities. He was a member of Zoar Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of deacons, pianist, organist, and in various other capacities.

Mr. Cain was a perfectionist, a superior leader and a “doer.” He was involved in a wide variety of activities in the local community. He had unique computer skills which he gladly shared with anyone who needed help and was a computer consultant for several local businesses. Mr. Cain served on the Appling County Board of Elections and as treasurer of the Consolation Baptist Association. He was a member of the Baxley Lions Club, the Georgia Association of Voter Registration & Election Officials, a Mason, and the cemetery sexton for Appling Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cain was a loving and devoted husband, father, relative, and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Song Ja Cain of Baxley; daughter, Cathy Cain & Ben Siegel of Brooklyn, NY; son, Robert W. Cain of Oakwood; and a granddaughter, Naomi Cain-Siegel. Six close cousins and their respective spouses also survive.
