Ronnie Lee Nelson
November 15, 1940 ~ September 15, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old
Ronnie Nelson, age 82, of Baxley passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 at Memorial Health in Savannah.
Mr. Nelson was born November 15, 1940 in Jeff Davis County. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and the Sr. Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a Sergeant in the Georgia National Guard and was the former owner of Baxley Electric Motor Works. After retirement, he worked for about 15 years at Stan’s Pharmacy where he delivered medicine and was called the “drug man” by many of his friends. He was a member of the Holmesville Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the American Legion, the Republican Party of Appling County, and Sons of the Confederacy. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie Nelson and Eulee Carter Nelson, former wife, Jackie Harris Nelson, and a daughter, Donna Gore.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Stalvey Nelson of Baxley; sons, Russ Nelson (Brian Hall) of Gainesville and Rev. Alan (Joella) Stalvey of Baxley; daughter, Amy (Lewis) Tyre of Blackshear; sisters, Carole (Wade) Claxton of Jesup and Connie Nelson of Hazlehurst; and seven grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. Benji McReady and Rev. Randy Manning officiating. Interment will follow in Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Chip Craven, Cheyne Browning, Will Thomas, Tucker Barnes, Ben Besch and Davy Gore.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sr. Men’s Sunday School Class of Midway Baptist Church and the McDonald’s Coffee Club.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Midway Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
