Russell Irvin Ebel

Russell Irvin Ebel, age 96, of Baxley passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mr. Ebel was born August 5, 1926 in Belleville, Illinois to the late Louis Edward Ebel and the late Viola Hueting Ebel Sporleder.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ebel and sister, Doris Toth.

Mr. Ebel was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Baxley and was a retired teacher with the Appling County Board of Education. He was involved in the Royal Ambassador program for over 50 years and a baseball coach and children’s day camp. He was a member of the Appling County Retired Educators and the American Legion.

Survivors include his daughter, Carol Sue Ebel of Baxley; and a nephew, Jerry Toth of St. Louis, MO.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Redwine officiating.

A private interment will follow in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
